Heath: Hi, I’m Heath.
James: And I’m James and we’re from Missouri. And we’ve been a part of Freedom Mentor for about
a year now.
Heath: We’d been looking into real estate for about 10 years researching, reading people’s blogs and stuff. And we’ve been doing it side by side and talking to each other about it, and then James found Freedom Mentor and he said, “What do you think of this?” And we kind of were looking into that. We both decided this really seems like a good idea. We decided to do it and we were both in exactly the same area, so we just did a partnership and went that way.
James: Just recognizing that if you’re going to be successful at anything, you need a coach. And Phil was by far the best one that we’d found. We thought we had a shot with being successful. What we liked about Freedom Mentor was that we weren’t alone, that we had people who had blazed the trail before us and we could ask questions when we needed to, and we could have a real shot at being successful at what we were trying to do.
Heath: Yeah, we knew real estate investing was complicated. There was a lot of pitfalls, but we thought we’d done 10 or so years of research and that we knew not what those pitfalls were necessarily, but the extent to which they were there. We had no idea. No idea. And so that’s what I think liked the most about this program is not only do you learn all of them, but you get to avoid the costliness of those mistakes. We’ve made mistakes but because of the coaching, they’ve not been-
James: We’ve….
Heath: …catastrophic.
James: …we’ve recovered well.
Heath: Yeah.
James: We’re at the Daytona Beach 2019 Mastery with Freedom Mentor. And the reason we decided to come was the people that we’ve been talking to and getting advice from, we wanted to meet and rub shoulders with the best, meet other students. We knew we could watch this on a live stream and online, but there was no substitute for being face-to-face.
Heath: Yeah. There was a breakout session at least yesterday and that was really good. And also, when you’re sitting there watching online, you can’t raise your hand and ask a question, and we’ve done that many times throughout the last couple of days.
Phil is, he’s impressive. He’s, he’s always been impressive on his videos where we started kind of listening to what he had to say. Seeing him in person and being able to talk to him, he’s also knowledgeable even on the fly with questions that we’ve had about new strategies, things that are kind of new to him, but he’s got such a wealth of experience and base knowledge in the whole gamut of things in this industry that he can problem solve on the fly like that. And you know, that’s invaluable.
James: What I liked the most about Phil is not only the real estate knowledge, but this business is so much, especially at first, and as you grow a mindset and the mental coaching that he’s been able to bring. We recognize that right off that he had an awareness that this is what people are going through psychologically, and these are the reasons that people quit in that first year or two, is that they’re overwhelmed, they’re discouraged, and so to deal with that part as a mentor, I recognize that was the most important part was, recognizing where you are, staying in the game. Don’t let these situations scare you off; stick and stay until you get your pay.
Heath: I think the coaches have been obviously very helpful. The conversations on the coaching calls have been the most helpful. Not everybody is as good at the written communication, that varies a little, but the coaching calls are frequent enough that, you can’t get immediate questions answered, but you can, I mean they’re pretty, within a couple of days there’s probably a coaching call that you can get on and get a question answered.
James: At first, we wanted to do all this on our own so we didn’t utilize the coaching near as much as we should. Now, right off the bat we would get them involved. And some of these coaches have been with Phil for years, and so it’s been good for them, it’s good for Phil, it’s good for us.
We got a lead from Google, from our marketing. We happened to be on our way to another property. We called her, and you know, did a detour, went over to the house, talked with them about their situation. We ended up getting it under contract. You want me to say numbers?
Interviewer: Yeah.
James: We ended up getting a contract for $70,000. We did some renovation. We actually got a hard money loan from Freedom Mentor, and we provided the fix up cost. We sold that about four months later for $140,000, and so we did well. I think we cleared about $38,000 or so that we split.
Heath: Total that we split, yeah.
James: If you truly want to stay until you’ve mastered some skills that are very valuable today in the real estate business, you need a mentor, and I’m sure there are several fine mentors throughout the country, but we did our research and we looked through and we chose Phil for a number of reasons that we’ve said before. I think Freedom Mentor gives a person, overall in a well rounded shot.
Heath: Yeah, it’s hard. It’s difficult emotionally, psychologically, and it’s just knowledge wise, it’s difficult to do. You’ve got to become better at many things, many areas of your life you’ve got to get better at. But without coaching, you could take 20, 25, 30 years and get maybe half of the way that you could get in three years with, with this kind of coaching.
James: I’ll say it this way, that the mentor that we chose, we chose because he was teaching about success and true success. It’s not just financially, it’s not just making some deals – winning with your family, managing your time, moving up to a place that you’ve never been – and you need to have a guide to take you. So how do you get to where Phil’s been? Well, you join his team and let him help you.
#156: Such a Wealth Of Experience. The Mentor That We Chose, We Chose Because He Was Teaching About Success and True Success.
