Don: Okay. Hey, my name is Don.
Amanda: Hey, I’m Amanda.
Don: And we are from Texas and we’ve been in the program for two years. The reason we wanted to join Freedom Mentor is we wanted to take control of our own retirement planning for ourselves. Because we didn’t believe we should put that in the hands of anybody else. Like a 401k for example.
Amanda: Yeah, I actually introduced the program to Don two years ago, shortly after we got married. And we want to make sure that we’ve really planned to leave a legacy for our future family too.
Don: What I really like is the coaching staff and just their ability to communicate and walk us through all of the deals. And just provide their guidance to us so far, has just been really fantastic. Well, before this we had recently just gotten married and we were both working corporate jobs together. And we didn’t really have, I guess, a firm idea of what we wanted to do to plan for our retirement. So we both had kind of brainstorm together and determined that real estate was where we wanted to head with that.
Amanda: I had been working a job that required me endless weeks on airplanes. And as my husband said, because we were newly married, we were also looking forward to having a family and building that lifetime of financial support for ourselves. And the dream of that did not include working full time corporate jobs for the rest of our working years.
Don: Well I didn’t know what to expect and I’ve been at conferences before and I mean this has really been the best experience. Our budget’s always pretty tight we’re always trying to spend money in the right places. But spending the money to come here has really been the right decision for us. And just getting to meet some of the other students and see the coaches in person has just been incredible for us.
Amanda: By far, and I said this to my husband last night, I have never meshed so well with a team of people, with a team of like-minded people, than we have in the Freedom Mentor program. And yes, a lot of it certainly does come down to all of our aspirations. But value system culture and the ability to work together as a team and build a foundation that will just allow us to live our life with so much more than what we could have imagined. Phil is devoted to his family and he is devoted to God too. But he’s devoted to building smart financial goals and he does it in a way that is filled with humility and power and confidence. And always continuing to improve his knowledge and his education no matter what, never ends.
Don: Phil is definitely someone I’ve looked up to the past couple of years. And coming to this event, especially, and two days ago when we got to do the tour on the bus event. Just seeing the properties he’s personally invested in and just getting to see some of his mistakes have been a real eye-opener, at least for me personally. Because we’ve made a lot of mistakes ourselves and now I kind of understand everything he’s gone through himself. And it’s been really great to meet him in person and kind of see his energy and passion.
Amanda: His transparency as well. And even Don and I talked about that he has been open and honest still his mistakes, no mistakes, however you may define it.
Don: Learning experiences.
Amanda: Yeah, with even some of the most recent real estate deals that he had completed here locally.
Don: I would say if you are thinking about this program and maybe you’re on the edge because you’re thinking about your experience, maybe you don’t know a lot about real estate. We didn’t know a lot about real estate ourselves and we were able to complete two deals in the first year. And we were very scared going through the entire process. But with the encouragement of the coaches, everything they said was true and it all worked out. And every time we had kind of questioned the team behind the scenes and we just did what they said and it worked out.
Amanda: Yeah, if we did question them.
Don: Yeah. And we would just laugh about it. We’re like, “Phil was right.” So I would just encourage them.
Amanda: The value of their coaching advice is just so applicable to not only real estate, but just our everyday working lives and our everyday family lives. It’s been really incredible to work with a group of people who are so pro American and capitalism and that we are in control of our futures. And that’s not something that anybody can take away from us. And we love being surrounded by people like that.
Don: I just want to add one more thing. While Phil is kind of like the leader of the coaching staff, all of the other coaches have also been just as great to work with. Like Brian Busch, for example, has made a huge impact on my life, just improving just as an investor in general. And not just a real estate investor, but investing in everything kind of just helped improve my mindset.
Amanda: Personal life, yeah.
Don: Just over two years I feel like I’ve grown exponentially.
