My name is John. I’m from North Carolina, central North Carolina, between Raleigh and Charlotte. I’ve always been curious about financial freedom. So from a very early age, I was taught well by my parents about saving and investing. Ever since I started working corporate America, I’ve always utilized the 401K, the matchings, everything like that. But for me, the dream of just working until 65 and then retiring and then being kind of old and not wanting to travel the world anymore was very, very depressing. And looking at my investments grow, it was growing well, especially in today’s economy, but it still wasn’t fast enough.
And with credit cards, they’re charging like 20 some percent crazy interest rates, the 7% just, I felt like I wasn’t getting the sweet end of the deal. So I was kind of always looking for kind of entrepreneurial opportunities. I’d never really knew what I wanted to do and I kind of stumbled upon Freedom Mentor. And at first of course I was a little skeptical. There’s a lot of scams going on out there. So I didn’t know what to expect. But after doing a lot of reviews, I found myself joining the apprentice program.
The experiences have been very eye opening. There’s a lot of things that I didn’t know what I was getting into. A lot of eye-opening moments. One of the things that was a big challenge for me was kind of changing myself, my personality. I’m a very analytical person. I need to know A, B, C, and D and then F. Here, it’s kind of like you have to go with the flow, you have to be very flexible. And at first some of the coaches and I were kind of fighting over that. I had to kind of change my attitude towards how I view the world. And that was kind of the biggest challenge for me. But overall it’s been a great experience. The coaches are wonderful, they’re helpful. The business model works because it’s a profit sharing program, so it’s a win win deal. So they’re not going to leave you high and dry. We’re being successful together.
Before joining the program, I even thought about… I loved the videos, but I was like, maybe I can do this on my own without joining the program. And in hindsight I’m really glad I didn’t do that because it would have taken 10 years to figure some of this stuff out. So that was kind of my reasoning for joining the apprentice program was, there is a profit sharing, but it’s going to shorten the amount of time. I’m going to have people that know what they’re doing, they’re going to coach me along the way and it’s not going to be as scary. So I think that was the biggest benefit of not going on my own. Because I would still be kind of fumbling around, not without a contractor.
Actually, I was able to close my first deal right before I came here on mid March. And that was my first deal. It was an eye opener because I didn’t know what I was doing most of the way. It was a step by step process. There were so many issues and it wasn’t a big deal, but just the experience alone was an amazing part of it. So the coaches were saying, even if you made $2 from this deal, the experience you gained is beneficial and I totally agree with that.
It was a motivation. It kind of proved that this works. And I think that’s one of the biggest questions people have when they first join the program is, is this going to work for me? I think there’s no doubt that it works for people. But the big question is, does it work for me? And once she kind of reach that milestone and you know it’s going to work, for me, it was a huge motivational boost. And now I just want to go get everything under contract. And I know if I mess up, it’s not a big deal. So I’m just kind of chord everything and see what happens. So it was a great learning experience.
