My name is Gilbert. I was a former chemical engineer in the oil and gas industry up until August of 2016, I joined the Freedom Mentor program in May. Up until then, I was doing it part-time until the oil crisis happened and caught up to my company where I lost my job. Now I’m doing real estate investing full time.
I joined the Freedom Mentor program for one simple answer, it was to become wealthy. When I went to school, I wanted to become an engineer to make money. When my mentor in engineering told me that I was in the wrong field if I wanted to become rich, well that’s when I decided to start looking elsewhere.
I read a lot of books on becoming wealthy. As I was reading those books, I discovered Phil on YouTube and everything he preached, freedom and wealth through real estate. His mentorship program was something that caught my eye but it was always on the back seat. Until that day I made that decision and when I discovered what true wealth was, I knew that I never wanted to work for anybody ever again. Freedom meant to me being your own boss and being there for my family. My dream is to be home with my kids.
When I signed up for the Freedom Mentor program, my gut went on fire. I’m a man who trusts his gut. That’s how I found my wife, that’s how I found my puppy. So, when I signed up for the Freedom Mentor program, I knew it was right.
I’m here to share my first deal that I closed last month. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life honestly. I never had to come out of my shell and work so hard all myself through anything I’ve ever done. There was times when I was down and I was out, but I just on a coaching call, talked to the coaches, to Phil, and things moved forward just as they told me. Everything worked out smooth. Every part of the deal that could’ve went wrong, it did. I had situations where the title company failed to show up, to even start the work. To try even back out, had contractors back out on me, I had sellers steal from me. I just had a mess of problems, but throughout that deal, I’m glad to say we made $12,000.
I believe in this program. After I got let go from my previous company, I decided to take this full time because I fully believe in Phil’s program. It was a … it’s not just the program, it’s not just the blueprint, it’s not just the coaches, just his trainings. To me it was the relationship and the growth in myself. I did things I could never even thought of doing or done without having the right poke in the back. That was a … you know, the relationships, trainings, everything’s excellent. I’m giving up my four years of college knowing that this is where I’m meant to be. I’m meant to be a real estate investor. I was meant to be wealthy. I was meant to be there for my family at all times. This is to the first of many.
On a personal note, just between us guys, just thank you Phil. Thank you Brian. Thank you coaches. Thank you everyone who was a part of this deal. Who helped me out every step of the way. I was truly blessed. I discovered at a young age what it meant to have a mentor as I did in engineering. I knew I was gung-ho on Freedom Mentor. I’m just happy to say I made the right decision here today. My family thanks you, my future family thanks you. I’m on my way. I promise you that I’m gonna bust my butt. I’m gonna close a lot of deals. We’re gonna make a lot of money together. You have my word on this video as a promise.
SECOND VIDEO
Gilbert: Ladies first.
Tracy: My name is Tracy. I’m from Texas.
Gilbert: I’m Gilbert at a small town in Texas where I grew up. We’ve been married for a year, one year, April 9th we’ll say that. One year and one week. I’ve been in this program for about 11 months now. The reason why I joined Phil’s program, I always wanted to do some kind of investing. I was reading a lot of books when I was in engineering. I had a mentor one day told me, in engineering, he said, “If you’re wanting to be rich, you’re in the wrong business.” And I went to school to become rich.
Gilbert: So I thought chemical engineering was my way. When I heard him say, because he’s trustable, he was my mentor. No. He was my first mentor, Freedom Mentor, he’s always around Phil, he is watching his videos, but until the honeymoon we got married, we went to Bali and I just saw people there were so rich as a person, just happy. And I said that day I wanted that, I didn’t want to work nine to five, I don’t want to do that anymore. And then Phil’s just popped up one day on my phone, I was looking for somewhere to go and my gut just said sign up. So I signed up on our honeymoon and we came back and I got in. So that’s where it all started. I was gung-ho from that day.
Tracy: Can you wait like just three days until we’re back in the US to sign up. He’s like, “No, I’m going to follow my gut.” So I was like, okay. We were at the movie theater and we were about to watch Civil Wars. So that’s whenever he was writing his essay, signing up for Freedom Mentor and the next day he got a call. But since we’re in an opposite time zone, he was so nervous. He was like, “Oh no I missed the call. What if I don’t get in because I missed a call?” I was really supportive. I’m glad that he followed his gut because you can tell he really wanted it for the future to support the family and everything.
Gilbert: So within that one year span I’ve only done one deal and that one deal was just everything in one package. I learned every step in the book. It was a subject two deal. It was people stealing from me, every kind of problem that occurred, any kind of hop in the way I went everything through that. And that just made me grow as a person. I was just like, okay, I will after that, I mean even got threatened to get sued. Now today my skin is so thick, I smile when I see those things like, okay, keep it coming.
Gilbert: Earlier, I just wanted to make it work so bad. I was blowing money, blowing money, blowing money on marketing. Nothing was producing but everything was working. Everything’s working so well. They said I couldn’t find that deal. I couldn’t find the deal maker. And so when I actually stepped back, managing my budget, learning who I was, as a businessman time management. I just got to sat down and I said “Should I go back to doing a job?” Oh by the way, I got laid off in August, oil and gas crisis. I was in the oil and gas field. I got laid off and I said, “I’m going to go full time. This is what I want to do.”
Gilbert: I had that much faith. I signed up my first deal, but I had that much faith in it because I knew this was going to work for me. And through all that, I just learned that who I was and what I want to do, and I said, “This is it. This is what I’m going to do. I’m going to keep doing it. I want to be a good person.” I didn’t want to step on somebody to get to the next level in a career. I just wanted to be a good person. That’s how I grew up. I’m from a small town. I never saw myself working for corporate either.
Gilbert: The coaches were there every step of the way. Any kind of question I ever had, it was like that. I got an answer right away. Any kind of moral question, I know for one of my coaching calls, I wanted to set it just for the investor mindset. Where do I stand in a contract? Where do I stand with the seller? Where do I stand this situation, this situation? What’s right, what’s wrong?
Gilbert: Well, I know at the end of the day it’s me that’s got to do, I’m doing this. The coaches are there to help me, guide me every step of the way, but at the end of the day, it’s me doing every single step of the way. They can tell me the best way to go about it. I can go this way and that’s my decision. I guess the best way to answer your question, it’s me that’s got to grow. That’s what I need to do to go to the rest of my toolbox. I got to keep growing myself and just pick everyone’s brain as much as I can.
Tracy: I’m excited honestly. So whenever he got laid off, we saw it as a blessing because when he was working and dealing with freedom mentor and doing deals, he was so stressed. When he come home from lunch, he did not eat, his food would get cold because he was doing calls and stuff like that. And then when he get home from work, he went straight calling sellers and he skipped dinner. So he was really stressed. So we saw it as a blessing that he was able to do this full time. I’m really excited and our goal is to hopefully I don’t have to work anymore. And then we grow with our family.
Gilbert: That’s the path, freedom. We would be at home with our future children, three of them. That’s the plan. Saying it right here.
Tracy: And just keep it growing our business.
Gilbert: Just keep it growing, I’m not going to stop here, just because I know through freedom mentor I know who I am now. I know where I want to go. I’m not going to stop either. I’m just going to keep doing something different. Well, real estate wise, but I’m going to keep growing. I’m going to go here, I’m going to go there. The sky’s the limit.
Gilbert: Real estate is tough. It’s so tough. You would think from the books and they say it’s so simple when you get to the real world, the two main lessons I learned in the real world, real estate, people are going to do whatever they want to do at the very end of the day and they’re going to work on their own time. And if you don’t have that kind of patience to wait on other people, then you’re going to have a huge disconnect. You’re going to be a very frustrated, very … I’m a man who is so calm, collected and just … just ask my wife, we actually got married. That first deal with was dealing with people that just don’t listen. That’s tough. I almost broke down. I really did. It was one of the toughest thing I ever did in my life, but after that one, thick skin baby.
