We’ve been part of the Freedom Mentor Program for just a couple months, actually. We did a little bit of work before, on our own; some flips, and found out that we were not getting to the properties fast enough, and couldn’t make the deals that we needed to. That’s why we engaged the program.
When I say “we”, we started with me and my partner. We started with looking at houses. I’ve been a property investor before. When I say “investor”, I’d flipped a few houses myself over the years. My partner, had been in other businesses, an entrepreneur, if you will. Opening several other business, and wanted to get into something that would provide a little more long term security, and something that was a little more interesting day-to-day for him, than running his businesses. We decided to join together.
I tell you what, when we started the idea of real estate investment, we knew a couple ways to do it; that was pay cash for a property that you find on MLS, or we were able to, perhaps, know someone, who knew someone, and maybe get a little bit of insider information, which is few and far between. When we started, that’s the only way we were looking at it; cash, MLS, very traditional. The reason we engaged this program, is because the opportunity to do that is very, very small. The opportunity to make money at that is even smaller.
The idea of learning how to get to these properties before they hit the MLS. Learning to get to the properties before they get to a traditional means is going to provide us a greater opportunity, because the opportunity still is small, but if you have the understanding of how to get to them faster, how to get them with deals that are more creative, than what we knew at the time. That’s exactly why we engaged Freedom Mentor, is to understand the myriad of ways, really, that you can go into a situation, a real estate situation, and come out ahead, come out and making profits.
This conference has been good. It’s reminded us, as if we needed it, it’s reminded us why we signed up for this program. Because, the level of experience that Phil has, that his mentor’s have, that our mentor’s have, is deep, and it’s broad. It’s … You come to a conference like this, and you get to tap into that, and understand all the things that you don’t know, and it kind of gets you excited about the opportunities again, about what’s out there, and the ways that you can accomplish your dreams, your goals, whatever they are.
Our goals, and our dreams: I’ve been a regular full time corporate employee for 29 years. My partner has owned his own businesses for about 18 years. Our goals, our vision for real estate, is to set ourselves up with something that is workable and doable long term, it provides residual income for us in certain situations so that we’re not out there hustling 24-7, all the time to do this. We’re looking for something that’s going to provide us an opportunity to do the things that we really want to do. Whether it’s, for me, teaching and working with non-profit organizations, or my partner, Andrew, he’s all about his kids, and everything that he can do for his kids. Something that provides us the opportunity, and the flexibility to do exactly that, that’s our goals.
